The Treaty of Waitangi was signed on February 6th in 1840. It signified an agreement between the British and several Maori Tribes where Maori land would be protected and British rule recognised. For more information about The Treaty of Waitangi please visit the NZ Government website here.
NZS Scotland remembers this day each year with a Waitangi Day Dinner on or around the 6th February.

2007 - Annual Waitangi Day Dinner
The Waitangi Day Dinner was held at the Edinburgh City Council Chambers on the Royal Mile.
We were joined by the Honorary Consul for New Zealand in Scotland Eric Milligan and his wife Janice. The pre-dinner reception was held in the Dunedin Room. This room is evidence of the strong links between Scotland and New Zealand, the wonderful room, lined with our native Rimu set the mood for a lovely evening.
