Airmen Memorial

To highlight the service and sacrifice of New Zealand airmen in Scotland during WWII a memorial plaque was unveiled at the Scottish Museum of Flight www.nms.ac.uk during 2002. The memorial plaque compliments the Arbroath ANZAC ceremony. The aim is to highlight the New Zealand involvement to the many young people who visit Scotland's premier air museum which has over 60,000 visitors each year. The memorial dedication was an official Queens Golden Jubilee event and the memorial was unveiled by Hon Russell Marshall, New Zealand High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. The Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines Scotland provided the music along with New Zealand Society Scotland's piper Mr Jim Fitzpatrick. Eventually the plaque is sited in the museums military aircraft hanger. As the plaque states "They Watch Over Scotia Still "

Memorial Coordinator Peter Leslie would like to thank members Mr Jack Harrall, Mr Ian Hogg, Mr and Mrs Wallace Mitchell, Mr Richard Gregan and Mr Grant Newman and the Museum of Flight for their help.

If you visit the museum the plaque is proudly displayed in Hanger 1 with the military aircraft.
